The North Star State includes Grand Portage NM, Mississippi NRRA, Pipestone NM, Saint Croix NSR, and Voyageurs National Park above, along with a section of the North Country NST that I enjoyed exploring.

Wisconsin is home to the Apostle Islands NL, Ice Age NST, Saint Croix NSR, and both Frank Lloyd Wright’s affordable Jacobs House and his dream home Taliesin World Heritage Sites above, as well as a section of the North Country NST.

The Great Lakes State includes park units Father Marquette NM, Isle Royale NP, Keweenaw NHP, MotorCities NHA, Pictured Rocks NL, River Raisin NBP, and Sleeping Bear Dunes NL above, plus and a section of the North Country NST and the Obtawaing Biosphere. Enjoy!

Show me the Show Me State! Here’s Gateway Arch NP, George Washington Carver, Harry Truman, Ozark River, Ste. Geneviève, US Grant and Wilson’s Creek. There’s lots more history to go see: Island Mound State Park in Freedom’s Frontier NHA, and the Lewis & Clark, Santa Fe, California and Oregon Pioneer, Butterfield Overland & Pony Express and Trail of Tears trails.

Celebrate the Hawkeye State: Effigy Mounds, Herbert Hoover and the Silos & Smokestacks NHA. Both Lewis & Clark and the Mormon Pioneers traveled through too.
Celebrate the Sunflower State, including Brown v. Board, Freedom’s Frontier NHA, Fort Larned, Fort Scott, Nicodemus and Tallgrass Prairie! Many national historic trails also pass through: Lewis & Clark, California & Oregon, Pony Express and Santa Fe.

The Cornhusker State is neither featureless nor all flat. Below I celebrate visiting Agate Fossil Beds, Chimney Rock (affiliated), Homestead NHP, Missouri River, Niobrara River and Scotts Bluff. Lewis & Clark mapped the way, and the California, Mormon and Oregon Pioneer Trails all pass through, followed by the Pony Express. Enjoy!

Celebrating visiting all park sites in Arkansas by EV and updating the Natural State on my map! Arkansas has both beautiful natural and many important historic sites. Below see Arkansas Post, Buffalo River, Bill Clinton Birthplace, Fort Smith, Hot Springs National Park, Little Rock Central High, and Pea Ridge. Two national historic trails also pass through the state: Butterfield & Trail of Tears. And the two easternmost American Concentration Camps are in Arkansas: Jerome & Rohwer.

While not the largest rock formation in the west, Chimney Rock above, was the first exceptional one seen by the pioneers on their journey across the wide open prairie, so many pioneers elaborately described it in their journals. Judging by the old photos, it has lost some of its point, but it still towers over the landscape. Chimney Rock also made a clear landmark for the prairie schooners navigating on the Pioneer Trails from the Platte River to the nearby pass at Scotts Bluff. The site is affiliated with the NPS, but it is managed by the Nebraska State Historical Society.
Celebrating the Pelican State! Below find a park visit photo each for Cane River Creole, Jean Lafitte, New Orleans Jazz and Poverty Point, which is also a World Heritage Site. (A tiny part of Vicksburg is also in Louisiana). This diverse, fascinating state also includes both the Atchafalaya and Cane River NHAs, as well as El Camino Real de las Tejas. I always enjoy traveling in Louisiana, especially the heavenly food, so go visit!
